Arrival; Veterans awareness day 2010

On Sunday the 13th June there will be a huge spectacular event on Weymouth Esplanade ; this towns "Veterans Awareness Day" http://www.visitweymouth.co.uk/index.php?resource=250

Upwards of 30,000 people are expected to be on the seafront alone. This event has the full support of the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council events planning department and will be publicised nationwide through the tourist information networks, newspapers are already reporting, media will go big on this event.

The following events are confirmed.
  • Historic Military Vehicle Display static Display
  • Veterans Rendezvous - Relaxed and informal atmosphere, meet new and old friends and comrades, collect lastest festival information and view displays of Cadet 150.
  • Beach Assault and Bridge Building by Royal Engineers
  • 1940’s Day at Portland Castle
  • Ex - Service Association awareness & fund raising stalls / units together with Welfare and information units i.e. SSAFA / Veterans Agency Advise Bureau etc (All Day on the Esplanade)
  • Regimental recruitment and promotional awareness stands
  • AJ Big Band Dance - Pavilion Ocean Room
  • Service of Remembrance, Veterans Parade, Vehicle Convoy & RBL Riders
  • Afternoon Band Performances
  • Spitfire and Hurricane Flypast - TBC
  • Photographic Display of Parade
Also this year is Cadet 150, the next generation will parade through the town after a service of remembrance at 11:00

This is a massive opportunity to collect enormous amounts of generous donations and small change alike. Bucket Brigade we need for this, most likely Sea Cadets can help out.

Our time of arrival is to be 15.00 hours at the height of the days events. The town Mayor has pledged to meet us on arrival at the town clock.Certainly many of the towns guest turned out in their thousands to pay their respects to our nations Veterans will be pleased to see us,  if you like girls and glory boys, this will be a great moment for you.

There will be events throughout the town that evening  and the Kings Arms being a major supporter of and run by ex servicemen have extended their welcome to any marching fund raiser for a steak and a nice cup of tea!

There may be transport laid on for those that have to get back to collect cars etc...TBC
